Tell your US Rep. and two US Senators NO to the 2008 Farm Bill

The National Taxpayers Union is asking us to send a letter to each our US Representative and two US Senators, asking them to uphold President Bush's veto of the 2008 Farm Bill.

Congress is poised to pass a five-year, $300 billion agricultural policy plan. Known simply as the Farm Bill, it includes provisions that deliberately aim to keep certain food prices (like sugar and dairy products) high. It allows millionaires to continue receiving subsidy handouts from the government, and it will also spend more money on fraud-ridden food welfare programs.

If we value efficient, fiscally-disciplined government, please send this letter (you can edit it if you wish). Or, you can reach your congressmembers through the Capitol Switchboard at 202-224-3121. Your representatives want to hear from you- tell them NO to the 2008 Farm Bill. Thank you

Watch a slideshow video about the new Change Congress grassroots movement

Lawrence Lessig, founder of Change Congress, has uploaded a nice slideshow video of his recent talk concerning his web site's launch. As discussed here three days ago, Change Congress aims to bring reform issues to candidates and congress and lobby them until the issues are enacted in legislation.

There has been a great display of enthusiasm already for this new grassroots campaign; Mr. Lessig is world reknown for his path-breaking work as founder and head of Creative Commons, a new method to keep your copyright while inviting certain uses of your work.

I have added a badge proclaiming my support and aid to Change Congress; you, too, can sign up and, if you have a web site or blog, display one as well! Join us today! Thanks.

Go to Budget School on the internet with US Rep. Marsha Blackburn

Here is a high-tech opportunity to learn about the federal budgeting process. Hosted by Republican Representative Marsha Blackburn, "Budget School" is sponsored by the Republican Study Committee, fiscal conservatives that work to keep the government small and your taxes down.

The first lesson was already completed last week- a review of last year's budget. You can still participate, so get in your chair and sit up! It is being held on Facebook; some homework is included.

Comptroller David Walker is leaving his post at the GAO (Government Accountability Office)

An outstanding public servant is stepping down from an influential federal government agency of reform. David Walker has run a non-partisan department (GAO) that usually responds to a Congressional request for an investigation or research effort so that we all can learn more about an issue, a concern, a topic. The Government Accountability Office is an arm of the Congress.

He has been travelling the nation bringing the urgent need for fiscal reform during this time of deepening budget crisis. He will be sorely missed.

Where do the presidential candidates stand on fiscal policy? A quick rundown.

The HeraldTribune.com news site from southwest florida has a report on the basic fiscal policy issues of each of the Democratic and Republican presidential candidates. Although All Things Reform does not endorse any one candidate, it is hoped this quick rundown of each candidate's stands on the federal budget will be of assistance in making your own voting decision.

This large newspaper doesn't include the fiscal platforms of minor and independent presidential candidates, so I must ask you to visit their respective campaign websites for those. Here are just a few third party websites that include candidates running for their nominations:
